A Day in the Many Lives of Sailor Sue

‍Sue Pritchard has never understood why she has a fear of water. With the help of Theana from Moon Haven, she delves into the Akashic Records to see if she can find out more.

“Maybe it’s not your fear to hold on to,” someone suggested to me a while ago and their words really made me think, because for some unfathomable reason, I’ve always had a fear of water.

‍Despite having numerous lessons, I’m still an incompetent swimmer who hates having water splashed in her face and never voluntarily goes under the surface. And I’m scared when out of my depth or on a boat at sea – particularly if land isn’t visible. So it’s also ironic I’ve had a magnetic, at times highly amusing, attraction to water for most of my life. ‍ ‍

There have been numerous near misses. If anyone can fall into a shallow stream and fully immerse themselves in it, I can! I’ve even escaped from a ferry crash (when I really did fear for my life) but nonetheless still love being near water. I can spend hours looking out to sea or at some lakeside view, and although the sound of water is therapeutically calming for me, if you add wind into the equation, a rough sea strikes terror into my heart.‍ ‍

It doesn’t end there though because I’ve spent most of my working life in the waterpower industry, and have been married to a water-loving Sea Scout instructor for 25 years. Often terrified when sailing, powerboating, paddleboarding, and kayaking with my husband, I’ve still tried to have a go. Deep down a part of me inexplicably wants to enjoy it.‍ ‍

It’s something I’ve thought about for many years. I’ve never had a near-drowning incident to explain my fear so struggle to understand why I feel this way. After a psychic previously mentioned I’d been a drowned witch in a former life, I was intrigued when it was suggested past life regression could help unearth what’s going on in this one. But I was reluctant to pursue this. It seemed too morbidly unnerving for my former muggle mind to find out about my own death.‍ ‍

However, knowing how sceptical I’d been about the life-changing oracle card reading which has since redirected my life, I knew I had to be open-minded and trust the process. So when it was suggested I might prefer Akashic Records instead, I booked an appointment with Theana from Moon Haven to see if she could help me.

Energetic Library‍ ‍

Akashic Records are described as being like an energetic library that hold the details of our souls’ journeys through different lifetimes, recording not only the facts of what happened but also thoughts, feelings, and emotions. This offers insight, healing and guidance from the past, present and future, helping to provide clarity or deeper understanding of our life’s path.

‍ I didn’t know what to expect as Theana settled me down for my 30-minute session (I’d booked the shorter one in case it unnerved me too much), and began to cocoon myself in a blanket ready for meditation. ‍ ‍

“Just observe,” Theana told me gently. Explaining I never really see or hear anything when in meditation, she said not to worry because she’d also be taking notes. All I had to do was relax.

Surrounded By Water‍ ‍

With hauntingly beautiful panpipe music playing in the background, my ears pricked up at the gentle sound of running water. Goosebumps began to prickle all over my body, kicking my muggle mind into action. Don’t jump to conclusions, it warned me, you’re too eager to connect everything with water. But gradually my closed eyes started twitching, and all I could see inside my eyelids was the brightest and most beautiful turquoise colour - one I don’t recall seeing in meditation before. Feeling clueless as to what else I was expected to see, feel or hear throughout the session, all I could think about when Theana gently brought the meditation to an end, were steep mountain tops and the eyes of turquoise peacock feathers.‍ ‍

Looking across to where she was sitting and smiling at me, I was amazed to see Theana had written on numerous sticky notes plastered all over her notebook. Before the session she’d asked if there were any karmic questions I wanted answers to, and not wanting to give anything away, I’d simply mentioned water, self-doubt, and am I going the right way in life.‍ ‍

“The first thing I noticed,” Theana said to me as she looked up, “was that you were surrounded by an unusual amount of water. And that was obviously reflected in the turquoise colours you saw,” she added. “You definitely weren’t living in a city or anything like that. I was shown you were in fact a sailor, surrounded by sea for 360 degrees.”

Now, this was the cue for my inner muggle to pop up. Surely you gave that away when mentioning water, it laughed. But swallowing down a familiar anxious lump in my throat, feeling unnerved at the mere thought of being at sea, I wasn’t quite so sure. And when she continued to speak, Theana’s words struck an emotive chord within my heart.‍ ‍

“You were young, about 18 years old, living somewhere in the Mediterranean such as Spain or maybe Portugal, and this was your first independent gig,” Theana said with a smile. I began to sit up and listen intently as her story caught my attention.

“You were hopeful with a spring in your step, on board this ship meant to sail far away across the ocean, perhaps towards Africa or the Americas. And although difficult to pinpoint accurately because there aren’t many cultural references at sea,” she laughed, “I think the date was about 1516.”‍ ‍

Well, that explains it, I thought with a wry smile. I made a bad decision that ended up with me drowning at sea.‍ ‍

“But you didn’t die there,” Theana said, perhaps reading my mind. “Your ship was lost at sea, but then the sailors on that ship discovered a beautiful mountainous island. For the first week or so, it was idyllic. You knew you’d made the right decision. Gradually though food ran out, people became ill, sickness was rife, and you became increasingly anxious. There were a lot of young sailors stranded there and they were fearful of dying - which could explain your sensitivity to death in this life,” she suggested.‍ ‍

Although I didn’t agree with this straight away, I did then think, oh, perhaps that’s why I was reluctant to learn about past life regression before.‍ ‍

St Helena

What really captivated me about Theana’s observations though, is that my family heritage can be traced back to an island called St Helena. Situated off the coast of Africa in the South Atlantic Ocean, it is one of the world’s most remote islands with mountainous terrain. What’s more, it was discovered by the Portuguese in 1502. And although I’ve not visited yet, I’ve always been drawn to smaller island locations such as those in the Caribbean, Spain, Madeira, and even the Isle of Wight in this country.‍ ‍

Mere coincidences my inner muggle scoffed. But would this information mean anything to other people I know? No, I told myself, it wouldn’t. ‍ ‍

Pushing doubt aside, I was fascinated with the notes Theana had written during my meditation. I was practically peeking over her shoulder and trying to read them for myself. I was transfixed. She was telling me these strange things, but in a way they sounded strangely familiar.‍ ‍

“Water has been brought through as an element for you to work with in this life,” Theana went on to explain. “It’s all to do with letting go and following the flow of life. You are attracted to water energetically as an idea or concept, but physically you are anxious in its presence. And in answer to your question about going the right way in this life. Yes,” she continued. “Yes was the resounding answer from your higher self. You were told to go for it. This life is all about making experiences and seeing what resonates with you, and this will help you build that skill of making choices.”

Spoilt For Choice‍ ‍

I’ve always been an indecisive person. I’m fine on those rare occasions when I stubbornly know what I want or don’t want, but if there’s an element of doubt, I’m often overwhelmed. Decision-making becomes painful and I’m always second guessing myself and asking others what they think.‍ ‍

Theana accurately picked up on this and called it choice paralysis, tracing it back to this former life as a sailor. Back in the 1500s, my path in life had been chosen for me by strict parents. I was expected to continue the family masonry business but decided to revolt and made my own decision for the first time, enlisting on that sailing voyage without telling anyone.‍ ‍

With hindsight, I thought, perhaps it hadn’t been the best decision, but Theana disagreed. She said it had made me feel so accomplished and that’s why my current life has been compensation for a former one of limited choices.

“Your soul chose this current life so you can have lots of different adventures. There are so many avenues for you to journey down,” Theana said. And I couldn’t help but agree. I’ve often called myself a jack of all trades and master of none. I’m always keen to try different things but never feel accomplished or confident in any of them. “This life is compensation for that former lack of choice and now you can do so many things, and you have a lot of choice, but you haven’t become skilled at confident choosing.”‍ ‍

“And this,” Theana continued, “can often lead to action paralysis and difficulty in making decisions. It also leads to over analysis which is stored in your body,” she pointed to her abdomen. And once again I thought how uncanny. I’ve often suffered the consequences of imbalance in my solar plexus and sacral chakras. “It’s as if you can’t digest how to live, and you want to change but don’t know how. You have a metaphorically rumbling stomach because you’re always hungry for something else.”‍ ‍

By this stage my inner muggle had waved a white flag in surrender because Theana had my undivided attention. Inviting me to choose oracle cards to reflect on my session, I nodded knowingly when one reminded me to put my trust in the universe and go with the flow. And I couldn’t contain a smile when another had a picture of a backpack entitled new adventures. It urged me to move through fear, trust my intuition and be open to adventure – all quite apt as I’m stepping out of my comfort zone and working towards publication of my first book.‍ ‍

The next time I visited the sea, at Theana’s prompting, I made a mandala from material I found on the beach as an offering for my past soul

Bringing the session to a close, Theana invited me to choose a little gift bag of crystals, and I unwittingly selected one which contained a turquoise stone representing water, plus an orange one for the sacral chakra. And the next time I visited the sea, at Theana’s prompting, I made a mandala from material I found on the beach as an offering for my past soul.

Looking out beyond the crashing waves on a windy day after completing my task, I could feel a tug at my heart strings as I thought about that young sailor lost at sea. As a tear trickled down my cheek, I wasn’t entirely sure if it was due to the windy weather or not.‍ ‍

“Your soul always remembers,” Theana had told me. ‍ ‍

What An Adventure

My experience with the Akashic Records almost transcends belief and has been an adventure in itself. My Google search history has since focused on Portuguese shipwrecks and colonies in the 1500s, cultural references to peacock feathers, and a recap of St Helenian history. I think my husband even views his aquaphobic wife differently now, renaming me Sailor Sue, while a friend marvelled at the irony I fell in love with a competent sailor in this life. And isn’t it uncanny, I never found out how that young sailor died after all?

‍The next time I was on water after seeing Theana it turned into quite a bumpy day powerboating around the scenic Jurassic Coast off the coast of southern England. And although I was eager to soak up these glorious views, my courage once again failed me and I resorted to clinging on tight with my eyes shut for most of the journey.‍ ‍

Although it hasn’t alleviated my fear, I do believe the Akashic Records have helped me understand who I am and, if nothing else, has led to a lot of rib-tickling jibes whenever aquaphobic Sailor Sue splashes into action again. As Theana believes, knowing, understanding, and processing the information we can gather from the Akashic Records brings healing to the soul.‍ ‍

“It’s like when you’re a child and you have a secret you’ve kept from your parents,” she explains. “It takes a lot of energy and emotions to hide it. But once that secret is out, even though it might be painful to start with and you’re perhaps embarrassed and start crying, once it’s out in the open, you feel a sense of release. You feel free because you no longer have to carry that burden with you.”‍ ‍

Speaking to a friend about my experience with the Akashic Records, I pondered why it’s taken over 50 years to finally learn so much about myself.‍ ‍

“No.” she laughed. “It’s taken you longer than that. Thousands of different lifetimes have led you here. It’s exhausting to think about, isn’t it?”‍ ‍

“It is,” I agreed. “But what an adventure to find out about them all.”‍ ‍
