Merry Christmas - Is It?
Once again, it’s that time of year to feel merry,
Full of festive cheer with a smile that’s bright.
But perhaps unlike those jingle bells this doesn’t ring true for you,
And in your heart it doesn’t sit right.
Just remember it’s ok to feel the blues,
Even though Bing says your Christmas should be white.
But maybe Elvis was more in tune with you
When he sang about one of the saddest festive periods in sight.
Perhaps you’re being kept company, by far too many ghosts of Christmases past.
Or maybe you’re feeling like Wham and thinking, this Christmas won’t be as happy as your last.
Perhaps it’s not those halls you want to deck with holly, but the person who’s grinning far too wide.
And no Rudolph, even with that ruddy glow on your nose, I don’t want a bloody sleigh ride.
But before you call me bah humbug
Or Victor Meldrew might be a more apt name.
Let’s not forget we all experience different things in life
And perhaps for just one day, festive cheer feels in vain.
Whatever you’re feeling, just feel it.
No matter how out of place it may seem.
Especially when Noddy from Slade shouts: It’s Christmas.
And at you he manically beams.
Afterall, it is only one day of the year,
But there can be so much pressure to get it all right.
And don’t forget there’s 364 others,
So don’t get stressed or into a fight.
And I do know that Christmas can be magical,
Especially for children, it is, oh, so true.
But as adults, there’s one thing we overlook in life,
And that’s the magic was always there - inside of you.
